Tengo

I dropped out
Of the school of hard knocks
I thought there must be a better way
I walked out
Of the fools masquerade
Saving for impossible days

I caught the fever pitch
Under the tree of life
I cut the cord
With a butter knife
I’m not sure
But I think I have it this time

I understand
If everyone leaves now
It’s not easy to take when you’re wrong
I didn’t plan
For mutual admiration
When I told you I was here all along

I fought the enemies
Of common sense
I bought a clue
From the intelligent
I’m not sure
But I think I have it this time
