Cinderella: A Fairy Tale For Our Times

Once upon a time there was a girl named Cinderella, which was an affectionate nickname given to her by her father who had passed away. Her real name was Susan. Her mother had also passed away, which was why she lived with her stepmother and two stepsisters. They felt bad at all the misfortunes that Susan had suffered, and were very nice and kind to her.

They all went to a ball held by a local prince, but in the end decided that a life partner should be chosen on the basis of overall character observed over time rather than looks and/or money. One of them broke a heel and left her shoe behind, and the prince used that as a pretext to visit them. However, they thought if he couldn’t be arsed to remember which of them had been wearing the shoe, much less what they looked like, then he really wasn’t worth bothering with.
